Who they’re looking for

Auditions are by invitation only after advance screening. Parker Players Theater Company welcomes and encourages artists of all races, ethnicities, abilities, faith/belief traditions, sexual orientations, gender expressions, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and nationalities to submit.

CAITHLEEN

Playing age: 20s

Irish. High-spirited, mercurial, quick-witted, and alive to possibility. Caithleen wears a mask of certainty even as she broils underneath with insecurity. Bold and impulsive one moment, vulnerable the next. Romantic without being sentimental, with an adventurous spirit and an intensity that draws Robbie into her world.

  • Irish accent

CAIT

Playing age: 50s–60s

Irish. Caithleen thirty-five years later. Cait has found some peace with herself and the life she has lived—but she has not been quashed by it. The spark, humor, intelligence, and unpredictability of the young Caithleen remain very much present. She carries both the wisdom of age and the lingering ache of what might have been.

  • Irish accent

ROBBIE

Playing age: 20s

American. High-spirited, adventurous, eager, free, and playful. Robbie is intelligent and curious, with an openness that makes his connection with Caithleen immediate and exhilarating. There are already hints of the more guarded man he will become, but at 20, possibility still outweighs regret.

ROBERT

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 50s–60s

American. The role of Robert has been cast.

ROBERT (understudy) · Understudy

Playing age: 50s–60s

American. The role of Robert has been cast; an understudy is being sought for this role.

Playing age, Equity, understudy… what do these mean?

Playing age is how old a character appears, which may differ from your own age. Equity is the actors’ union; check each theatre’s eligibility rules. An understudy learns a role to perform when the main actor is unavailable.

What does it pay?

$750 stipend for principal actors; $400 stipend for understudies

Contract: Non-Equity

What to prepare

Help with headshots, résumés, and self-tapes

A headshot is a clear photo of you. An acting résumé lists your performance experience and training. A self-tape is a recorded audition video. Sides are the short script excerpts the theatre asks you to perform. Follow this theatre’s specific instructions.

How to apply

Submissions are being screened in advance. Auditions are by invitation only. If invited to audition, please prepare a contemporary monologue of no more than two minutes that feels at home in the world of Bloomsday: natural, conversational, intelligent, and emotionally grounded. Actors auditioning for Cait or Caithleen will be asked to perform their monologue using their best Irish accent.
