Playing age, Equity, understudy… what do these mean?

Playing age is how old a character appears, which may differ from your own age. Equity is the actors’ union; check each theatre’s eligibility rules. An understudy learns a role to perform when the main actor is unavailable.

What to prepare

Help with headshots, résumés, and self-tapes

A headshot is a clear photo of you. An acting résumé lists your performance experience and training. A self-tape is a recorded audition video. Sides are the short script excerpts the theatre asks you to perform. Follow this theatre’s specific instructions.

How to apply

Sign up for a live audition slot or submit a tape using the Google Form. For all roles, prepare one contemporary monologue, preferably comedy, 45-90 seconds long. Park Ranger and Opossum should also prepare 30-60 seconds of a cappella singing. Tumbleweed, Cactus, and Rattlesnake should prepare 30-60 seconds of a punk, rock, and/or country song self-accompanied on an instrument. If playing multiple instruments, choose one to demonstrate. Drummers may email a clip and leave a note on the form. If a headshot and resume were uploaded to the Google form, there is no need to bring them.
