How to apply In person

Who they’re looking for

Seeking Equity actors for roles. Local actors and stage managers are encouraged to apply. The audition is open to all actors regardless of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability or any other protected characteristic.

Alex

Playing age: 30s-40s

Any gender, any ethnicity. The newcomer. A brilliant, well-read professor of comparative literature who has recently lost his moorings and is looking for real connection. Unvetted by Ana and unapologetic about loving popular fiction, he upends the club's rules.

Ana Smith

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 30s-40s

Founder and self-appointed queen bee of the book club, and a columnist for the local daily paper. Charming, accomplished, organized and gracious, with a need for control that sits just under the polish.

Rob Smith

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 30s-40s

Ana's spouse and the group's golden child: handsome, charismatic, from money, and a self-aware underachiever who never finishes the book, until one novel cracks him open.

Will Nothnagel

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 30s-40s

Rob's college roommate and Ana's former flame. Conservative, impeccably dressed and fiercely well read; a museum curator who defends the classics against all comers.

Jen McClintock

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 30s-40s

Ana's longtime friend, a scattered paralegal. Shy, smart and prone to blurting out awkward truths; the grounding center of the group.

Lily Louise Jackson

This role is already cast.

Playing age: 20s

Black. Ana's protégée at the paper and the club's newest member. A go-getter who reads on her phone, says what she thinks and sometimes puts her foot in her mouth.

Playing age, Equity, understudy… what do these mean?

Playing age is how old a character appears, which may differ from your own age. Equity is the actors’ union; check each theatre’s eligibility rules. An understudy learns a role to perform when the main actor is unavailable.

What does it pay?

CAT; pending negotiations.

Contract: CAT, pending negotiations.

What to prepare

Help with headshots, résumés, and self-tapes

How to apply

Please prepare two contrasting pieces, one comic and one dramatic, no more than three minutes total. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. If unable to attend the in-person auditions, submit a video audition through the form.
